Introduction:
By activating the five senses, the children will analyse the characteristics of each material and will be asked where the chosen materials can be found in everyday life.
Presentation of the experiment to be put into practice, named: “Lava bubbles”.

The experiment will be used to find out what kind of reaction effervescent salts have with water and oil.

Activities:
The teacher will explain the experiment to the pupils, hand over all the materials needed to carry out the experiment and guide them through the activity.

Material:
transparent glass jar
water
seed oil
red food colouring
effervescent tablets

Instructions:
Pour the water into the jar up to the middle
Pour the red food colouring into the water and stir.
Pouring the seed oil into the coloured water
Place the effervescent tablet inside the jar


Conclusions:

When the effervescent tablet comes into contact with coloured water and oil, it begins to ‘fizz’, emitting bubbles that rise to the top and then fall back down again. The bubbles rise and fall like lava in a volcano. At the end of the experiment the children discuss together what they have learnt.
